Wale Releases Surprise EP ‘The Imperfect Storm’ [LISTEN]

D.C. born rapper, Wale dropped a surprise for fans on Thursday (June 18th), by sharing what appears to be the cover art for his new EP titled ‘The Imperfect Storm,’ inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement. In the photo, the 35-year-old rapper highlights a crowd of citizen gathered under a traffic light while a nearby fire burns in the streets similar to several cities across the nation that have erupted in protest following the tragic killings of George Floyd in Minnesota, Breonna Taylor in Louisville, and Rayshard Brooks in Atlanta. Wale captioned the photo,

“The Imperfect Storm.”

Wale’s latest release includes a list of six new tracks detailing his perspective on the fight against racial injustice. After announcing his latest EP on Thursday, Wale took to his Instagram shortly after midnight sharing what his focus and goals were with his new project.

The ‘Wow…That’s Crazy’ rapper has been politically outspoken on his albums in the past, addressing systemic racism in politics, sports, and entertainment, so it’s no surprise that he’ll have plenty to say on The Imperfect Storm, as well. Wale spoke candidly about the concept of his last project, which centered around the incident of two black men who were arrested at a Starbucks while waiting for a group of friends. Wale says,

“What if you could walk through a day in the life of an average African American young man? What would you see? What would you hear? What would you face? We wanted to redefine the whole narrative and allow everybody to step into these shoes.”

He adds,

“I’ve never been more proud of a video than what we did here. Kerby really brought this vision to life, and Reebok helped make it a reality. I hope it makes you think a little. While you’re thinking, stay safe and stay home.”

Wale’s prior release for ‘Wow… That’s Crazy,’ peaked at #7 on the Billboard 200 chart, making it his fourth Top 10 album. The project also included contributions from Ari Lennox, Boogie, 6lack, Bryson Tiller, Jeremih, Meek Mill, Rick Ross, Lil Durk, Pink Sweats, Jacquees, and Megan Thee Stallion.
