Megan Thee Stallion On Downsides Of Fame: Not All Eyes Are Good Eyes

It’s only been three years since Megan Thee Stallion arrived on the music scene but she has quickly made her way to the top of the charts with her sassy, strong, in-your-face music. Now, she’s teasing a new song that would address the current civil unrest and call for justice for the black community.

She told Variety that it would include lyrics about the heightened #BlackLivesMatter movement that has received international attention after the tragic deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery. Their passings sparked nationwide protests. Megan Thee Stallion said of her next album,

“I feel like everything that’s going on right now, if it hasn’t moved you to speak out or try to make some type of difference, then something might be slightly wrong with you. Even though I haven’t already come out with a song with that messaging, I definitely plan on it.”

Her fame has landed her collaborations with other heavy-hitters from Nicki Minaj to Beyonce, and the latest being Cardi B in their song “WAP”, which will be released Friday (Aug. 7). While Megan Thee Stallion is known for her catchy hits, Nicki Minaj said she’s most impressed with Megan’s desire to continue pursuing her bachelor’s degree. Megan is a student at Texas Southern University. Nicki Minaj said,

“One of my favorite things about Meg is her desire to further her education. It’s so important for women to feel inspired to achieve goals outside of social media, where the focus is usually placed on their bodies or who they’re dating at the time.”

She continued,

“Women are more than just baby mamas, and we can continue to prove that by being goal-oriented, bettering ourselves, and being independent. Megan is the perfect example that we can have fun and be smart at the same time.”

Megan confessed that she’s still trying to balance it all as her school work once made her late for an awards show.

.. I had to finish a final. I remembered halfway through getting dressed for the event, so I’m finishing the final while my hairstylist is curling my hair and people are calling like, ‘Where is Megan?’ I got there and weight straight onstage.”

If she wasn’t a household name before, she quickly became one after her collaboration with Beyonce for the “Savage” remix. She dished on meeting Queen Bey and said,

“In the first five minutes of the conversation, I felt like I’ve been knowing her all my life. She treated me like family, and now I feel like I am family. We talk all the time.”

And she’s still learning about the ups and downs of fame. She confessed,

“The only thing I don’t lie about having all eyes on you at all times is not all eyes are good eyes. I still want to be able to walk into Walmart and buy dog food. I still want to party in the club and nobody’s recording me and no super-judgey internet police are going, ‘Shame!’ But all that comes with it, and you have to be prepared for people to be in your business 24/7.”

She may still be on the rise but Megan is continually learning lessons. Her recent controversy involving Tory Lanez has brought on a lot of speculation about what happened the evening she confirmed being shot in both of her feet. Reports have claimed that Tory Lanez is the alleged shooter. She got emotional as she spoke on the incident on Instagram Live last month.
