Tyra Banks Reportedly Upset About Jay Manuel’s New Novel, Allegedly Asked Former ‘ANTM’ Cast Not To Promote It
Former America’s Next Top Model judge Jay Manuel’s novel, The Wig, the B**** & the Meltdown, has recently been released and according to reports, Tyra Banks is not a fan. Jay Manuel’s novel is a satirical book that was largely inspired by his long run as a judge on ANTM.
A source close to the new author revealed that his former boss Tyra Banks is upset with the project and allegedly tried to stop other ANTM colleagues from promoting it. The insider shared,
“Tyra is not happy about the book. There was some kind of meeting with Tyra [and] some sort of message was sent out regarding the book coming out. A couple of months ago, she asked a lot of the ‘America’s Next Top Model’ family to not interact with Jay and to not support the book.”
Tyra Banks alleged efforts to get people not to promote the book could possibly be working. According to reports, Miss J, who was also a judge on ANTM, had been a guest on Jay Manuel’s Instagram Live show Jay’s Chat. However, Miss J reportedly pulled out of being a guest on the IG show moving forward with no explanation.
As previously reported, Jay Manuel has spoken on his relationship with Tyra Banks in the past. According to him, the two aren’t really close anymore.
“Over the past few years, we’ve emailed, to be very honest, we really have no relationship to speak of, which is really sad. Our time together on ‘ANTM’ was amazingly productive and, at times, magical. We got to experience being part of a global phenomenon.”
He also spoke on some of the backlash Tyra Banks has received over ANTM.
“I do think it’s a little unfair for people to persecute Tyra now, especially because she has already taken heat for her past executive decisions in past years. However, I can’t really defend her either because when ratings were high and things were great, she remained a clear figurehead, because it was her show. Consistently, when s*** hit the fan and people wanted to talk about some of the things that were said on the show, we would have another singular EP come forward to claim that all creative decisions were made as the team, and I really wish that were the case, but that just simply is not true.”
