Kamala Harris Cancels Travel After Staffer Tests Positive For COVID-19

COVID-19 is still spreading rapidly throughout the United States, and now Vice President hopeful, Kamala Harris announced that a member of her team has tested positive for the virus.  She made the public of aware of the latest news via Twitter and also announced that “out of an abundance of caution,” she will cancel travel through Sunday and campaign virtually. According to reports Harris had been scheduled to travel Thursday to North Carolina for events encouraging voters to cast early ballots.

Harris’ communications director and a flight crew member tested positive after a recent campaign trip but campaign manager Jen O’Malley Dillon stated that

“neither of these individuals had any contact with Vice President Biden, with Sen. Harris or any other staff member since testing positive or in the 48-hour period prior to their positive test results.”

Kamala Harris tweeted,

Late last night, I learned a non-staff flight crew member & a member of my team tested positive for COVID. I wasn’t in close contact—as defined by the CDC—with either during the 2 days prior to their positive tests. I’ve had 2 negative tests this week & am not showing symptoms.

A Twitter user responded to Harris, thanking her for being transparent and she responded saying,

Both the crew member and the staff member were wearing N95 masks at all points they were near me, and our doctors believe that we were not exposed under CDC guidelines. Out of an abundance of caution, I will cancel travel through Sunday and continue to campaign virtually.

She further noted,

I will be transparent with you about any test results that I do receive. In the meantime, remember: wear a mask, practice social distancing, and wash your hands regularly. It is possible to stop the spread.

This news comes nearly two weeks after president Donald Trump and Melania Trump both tested positive for coronavirus (Oct. 2).  According to the Trump administration, he has now tested negative following a series of medications and a short period of quarantine.

Kamala Harris has taken two tests since Oct. 8 with negative results for both.
