Update: ‘The Talk’ Co-Host Sharon Osbourne Apologizes After Lashing Out At Sheryl Underwood & Defending Piers Morgan’s Alleged Racist Comments

Update #1 (March 12th): Sharon Osbourne has issued a public apology, writing that she,

“panicked, felt blindsided, got defensive …”

See her apology below.

Original Story: In a clip that has since gone viral, Sharon Osbourne responded to reactions she received for defending Piers Morgan, who has been publicly slamming Meghan Markle amid her statements on the royal family.

When asked about her response to those who think she’s defending Piers Morgan’s arguably racist comments, Sharon Osbourne said,

“I feel like I’m about to be put in the electric chair because I have a friend who many people think is a racist, so that makes me racist. And for me, at 68 years of age, to have to turn around say ‘I ain’t racist!’, what’s it gotta do with me? …How can I be racist about anybody or anything in my life? How can I?”

Sheryl Underwood said,

“Well what I say…”

Sharon Osbourne interrupted her and asked,

“Well what?”

Sheryl Underwood then said they were going to a commercial break. When they returned, Osbourne leaned in toward Underwood and said,

“I will ask you again Sheryl, I’ve been asking yo during the break, I’m asking you again. And don’t try and cry. Because if anyone should be crying it should be me. This is the situation, you tell me where you have heard him say – educate me, tell me when you have heard him say racist things.”

Underwood explained,

“It is not the exact words of racism. It’s the implication and the reaction to it. To not want to address that because she is a black woman, and to try to dismiss it, or make it seem less than what it is, that’s what makes it racism.”

She continued,

“But right now, I’m talking to a woman who I believe is my friend. I don’t want anybody here to watch this [and think] we’re attacking you for being racist., and for that, if I articulated anything…”

Osbourne chimed in and said,

“I think it’s too late for that. I think that seed’s already sown.”

Underwood replied,

“For me, I thought I was asking a question about the perception for other people. That’s why I prefaced it with ‘I never heard you utter anything racist. But I have felt that Piers was racist in his stance against Meghan Markle, and the last time he was on this show, I said as much.”

Sheryl began trending on Twitter as viewers reacted to the conversation.
