Issa Rae Says She ‘Is Definitely Ready To Let Go’ Of ‘Insecure’ Ahead Of Its Final Season
While many fans were disappointed when Issa Rae announced the final season of Insecure, the award-winning actress is ready to let it go.
She spoke on the success of the award-winning show with TODAY earlier this week and said,
“I was complaining a lot about, like, what I wasn’t seeing on TV. And, you know, this was creating a character and a world to be like, if I can do it, and I know mainstream TV can do it. And so I was even surprised after the first episode, then I was like, ‘Oh God, I gotta write more and catch up.’”
Still, she always knew the upcoming fifth season would be its last. She added,
“I’m definitely ready to let it go. I knew that I wanted to end it after five seasons. And I feel like I’m really proud of this season that we’re shooting now. It’s so much fun, and it’s made me appreciate the show in a different way.”
One of her next moves is a deal with Warner Bros.
The contract, reportedly worth $40 million, is for five years and under her Hoorae media company. Under the agreement, HBO, HBO Max, and Warner Bros. will have exclusive rights to her TV projects. The deal also includes a first-look movie deal with WarnerMedia companies like Warner Bros. Pictures Group, New Line, and HBO Max.
This comes after her two-year deal with HBO in 2016 and a renewal in 2018 that lasted for an additional three years.
Issa Rae told Variety,
“It’s really exciting to have that flexibility and just deepen the relationship that we already have.”
She continued,
“Hoorae already had at least 15 projects in various stages of development with them, so we’d been working with them on the drama side, the unscripted side, and the documentaries side for a couple years now.”
She appeared to shut down the reported amount on Instagram.
