Derek Chauvin Found XXX For George Floyd’s Death

The long-anticipated verdict in the Derek Chauvin case over the murder of George Floyd has come. He has been found guilty of second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder, second-degree manslaughter. Derek Chauvin will be sentenced in eight weeks. His bond is revoked and he is placed into custody immediately.

Monday evening (April 19th), closing arguments for the Derek Chauvin trial were made. Jurors subsequently began their deliberations and continued into Tuesday (April 20th). They came back with an answer (insert date and time)

In May 2020, Derek Chauvin knelt on George Floyd‘s neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds while arresting him for a supposed counterfeit $20 bill. George Floyd‘s subsequent death has rocked the nation and brought about national conversations over police’s use of excessive force and the value of Black lives.

Chauvin was charged with second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter over George Floyds death. Additionally, his ex-colleagues Thomas Kiernan Lane, Tou Thao, and Alexander Kueng–all present during the incident–are charged with aiding and abetting Chauvin.

In response to the trial’s progression and the potential outcome, several Minneapolis businesses boarded up their shops in anticipation of the verdict. Also, there is a heightened presence of National Guard troops and police officers throughout the city. Protests began throughout the city as people waited for the verdict.
