This year has been quite the rollercoaster for Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez‘s relationship!

It was recently reported that J. Lo and her beau A. Rod officially called it quits via a statement to The Today Show:

“We have realized we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so. We will continue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects. we wish the best for each other and each other’s children.”

However, it seems as though additional details surrounding their failed engagement are surfacing.

According to PEOPLE, sources close to J. Lo have revealed that it was her idea to end their relationship. Reportedly, the overlaps of general distrust along with COVID-related relationship strain ultimately led to the decision to part ways. One insider claimed she couldn’t completely “trust” the retired MLB star and “insisted” on ending their engagement. They added,

“There are too many issues that are unresolved.”

They went on to say,

“She has been pretty miserable and didn’t think it was in her best interests to stay with Alex.”

“They both liked spending more time together as a family, but it was difficult to keep that special spark when they saw each other every day.”

A separate music source addressed cheating claims and said,

“‘Whether or not he has cheated doesn’t matter. She won’t tolerate the fear of it in the air between them.'”

As previously reported, there were rumors earlier this year that A. Rod was cheating on J. Lo with Madison LeCroy of Bravo’s Southern Charm.

While both Madison LeRoy and A. Rod denied these allegations, a source who knows J. Lo and A. Rod later revealed that he had a problem when it came to flirting, stating:

“Alex has had a problem texting girls for years. There is no proof that he has moved past the texting flirtation stage, but the evidence had continued piling up and became too much to ignore.”
