Mike Tyson Claims That Shrooms Improved His Mental Health: It’s An Amazing Medicine, I Believe It’s Good For The World
Did shrooms really help Mike Tyson make a comeback?
The former heavyweight champion recently sat down for an interview with Reuters, and he proceeded to discuss how “magic mushrooms” allegedly helped him. According to Mike Tyson, who infamously bit a portion of Evan Holyfield‘s ear off during a 1997 fight, the mushrooms allegedly assisted with his mental state and suicidal thoughts. He claimed:
“Everyone thought I was crazy, I bit this guy’s ear off. I did all this stuff, and once I got introduced to the shrooms… my whole life changed. It’s scary to even say that.”
He continued:
“To think where I was–almost suicidal–to this now. Isn’t life a trip, man? It’s amazing medicine, and people don’t look at it from that perspective.”
Mike Tyson proceeded to discuss the alleged benefits of “magic mushrooms,” stating:
“I believe this is good for the world. If you put 10 people in a room that don’t like each other and give them some psychedelics, they’ll be taking pictures with each other. Put 10 people in a room who don’t like each other and give them some liquor, and they’ll be shooting everybody. That’s real talk.”
Tyson is not the only athlete to claim that shrooms provide mental health benefits. Former NHL player Daniel Carcillo also stands by the alleged benefits of psilocybin, the psychedelic ingredient in “magic mushrooms,” and even launched a life science company called Wesana to explore these perceived benefits. Mike Tyson recently partnered with this company, saying:
“[Wesana] was on the same level of thinking that I was. They wanted to share this with the world. This is very limited, us doing this in these small ceremonies.”
Despite these claims, it’s worth noting that shrooms are still illegal in many parts of the world–including the United States–and that many medical professionals warn against self-medicating with them.
