Lin-Manuel Miranda Reacts To ‘In The Heights’ Colorism Backlash: We Fell Short, I’m Truly Sorry
Lin-Manuel Miranda is speaking out, addressing some criticism that In the Heights has received for not accurately representing the Afro-Latino population.
During an interview with The Root, director Jon M. Chu and actors Melissa Barrera, Leslie Grace and Gregory Diaz IV were questioned about colorism in the film’s casting choices.

And now Miranda has responded to the criticism. He writes,
“I hear that without sufficient dark-skinned Afro-Latino representation, the work feels extractive of the community we wanted so much to represent with pride and job. I’m learning from the feedback, I thank you for raising it, and I’m listening.”
