Beyonce And Jay-Z Criticized After Posing With Basquiat Painting In A Tiffany & Co. Ad
Beyonce and Jay-Z are facing some criticism after posing with a never-before-seen Jean-Michel Basquiat painting. The power couple are the new faces of the new Tiffany & Co. “ABOUT LOVE” campaign. The painting comes from a private collection of the late Jean-Michel Basquiat entitled Equals Pi. The campaign will reportedly debut on September 2nd.

Beyonce and Jay-Z are known to have an expensive taste for artwork and make music videos with famous art pieces. One great example would be their now-iconic 2018 music video for their song “APESHIT.” The music video was filmed in the Lourve Museum in Paris.
Even though the duo have been known to appreciate artwork, many critics took to Twitter to voice their opinions on the new campaign. Some viewed the campaign as flaunting wealth and argued that artwork shouldn’t just be for the rich.

Another Twitter user questioned Beyonce and Jay-Z’s motive for hiding it until now.

More people found Jay-Z’s seemingly Basquiat-inspired hairstyle more of a concern than the actual painting.

However, the commentary on this Tiffany & Co. collab wasn’t all negative. One Twitter user spoke about how no one really knows what Jean-Michel Basquiat would think of his painting being used since the artist passed in 1988.

Jean-Michel Basquiat is known to be the most influential artist of the 20th century. Jay-Z has also been known to be very vocal about his love for the artist and has referenced him in many songs.
What do you think about the duo using the Basquiat painting in the Ad? Let us know in the comments.
