R. Kelly Accused of Assaulting A 17-Year-Old Girl Two Days After Marrying 15-Year-Old Aaliyah

During the third week of R. Kelly’s sex crimes trial, he’s being accused of assaulting a 17-year-old girl in 1994. According to reports, the woman accusing R-Kelly was identified as Addie and she is the fourth accuser to testify against him.

This is the first time she publicly talked about the assault. She joins the long list of women who have accused R.Kelly of assault over the years. Addie says the assault took place on September 2nd, 1994. R.Kelly illegally married Aaliyah on August 31st, 1994 which is only two days prior. 

Reportedly, the incident happened in Miami after Kelly’s concert. She got VIP tickets from her mother who worked at a radio station at the time and she went with her 19-year-old friend. While talking about the alleged assault Addie recounted how she felt during the encounter. She said,

“I was in complete shock.I was just very introverted and shy and didn’t know what to say at all. I just basically went blank.” 

Addie began to give more details on the incident. She said,

“When the concert ended, a couple of minutes after, there were some gentlemen who approached me and my best friend, asking if we’d like to get an autograph,” she said. “They asked if me and my best friend wanted to go and get autographs from Kelly.”

She assumed that because she was underage she couldn’t go backstage because she said that Kelly announced that only women were allowed backstage. 

“I automatically assumed, because I was underage, I couldn’t go back there.”

According to reports, the men that invited the two teens backstage didn’t ask for ID and brought the girls to Kelly’s dressing room. 

“Once we got into the room, he stopped doing interviews and we approached him, and that’s when we engaged in conversation. I told him I was an aspiring artist as well. He also wrote down a [hotel] room number, suggesting to come by for an audition. 

Addie also told Kelly her age at the time.

“I told him I wasn’t sure I was even allowed to be in the room, because I was 17-years-old. He didn’t respond about my age.” 

Things took a physical and graphic turn when Addie started to describe how the alleged assault began. Addie said,

“He wanted to play a game, asking who could kiss better. He started kissing on my best friend.” 

The friend kissed back then stopped. Addie continued on by saying,

“He started kissing on me at first, and then I felt a little overwhelmed [and] pulled back. He started getting a little more aggressive and basically kind of moved toward the back of the room.[Kelly was] holding my wrists and unzipped my pants. He sort of guided me to the back of the room. He had sex with me unprotected.”

Reportedly, Kelly tried grabbing Addie’s friend to make them participate but she refused and the teens unlocked the door and ran out. Addie went on to say why she didn’t immediately press charges after the incident.

“My best friend wanted me to call the police and press charges. At the time, I was very scared … I didn’t want to get victim-shamed. I assumed if I moved forward with that I wouldn’t be able to move forward with my career, and I would be blaklisted from the industry.”
