R. Kelly – Minister Who Married Singer & Aaliyah Testifies, Says They Wore Matching Jumpsuits To Ceremony: I Didn’t Think It Was Anybody Special

The minister who married R. Kelly and the late Aaliyah has spoken about the nuptials for the first time as he was subpoenaed to testify during R. Kelly’s trial. As you may already know, R. Kelly infamously married Aaliyah in 1994 when she was only 15 years- ld. Allegedly, R. Kelly had the ‘One In A Million’ singer’s age altered to state she was 18 on the marriage license. He was 27 at the time. Aaliyah’s parents reportedly had the illegal marriage annulled in February 1995.

Yesterday (Sept. 1) Nathan Edmond, the man who officiated the wedding between R. Kelly and Aaliyah, took the stand via a video conference call and shared his side of what went down on that controversial day. According to reports, Nathan Edmond told the court that he was asked to perform the marriage ceremony as a favor to a mutual friend of his and R. Kelly’s. He also shared that prior to the wedding, he’d never met either of the famous R&B singers before. He added,

“I didn’t think it was anybody special—I didn’t understand it at all.”

Nathan Edmond revealed that the wedding took place at a hotel in Rosemont Illinois and a few people were in attendance, including the mutual friend between Nathan Edmond and R. Kelly plus

“three other gentlemen that Edmond did not know.”

Edmond continued and said the wedding was short and lasted

“about 10 minutes or less.”

In addition to that, he said that R. Kelly and teenaged Aaliyah wore matching jogging suits with

“one leg on the jogging suit up to the knee.”

He noted that during the quick event he couldn’t see Aaliyah’s whole face because her hair covered half of it.

Edmond also claimed that before the wedding started he was asked to sign a non-disclosure agreement but he declined because the document didn’t look “legally sound.”

He added,

“I looked at it, I read it, then I kind of chuckled and said it wasn’t worth the paper it was written on.”

Instead, Edmond promised R. Kelly he would never speak about the wedding. He claimed that he declined monetary compensation for his time as well.
