Frank Ocean Is Reportedly Shopping A Brand New Album To Various Record Labels
Frank Ocean is allegedly trying to secure a record deal and drop a new album!
According to recent reports, Frank Ocean is shopping a new album to various record labels. Notably, this move comes after the 33-year-old artist has been independent for the past five years. Just one day before his Blonde album dropped in 2016, Frank Ocean chose to part ways with Def Jam Records. He had been with the label since 2009 and released his first studio album–Channel Orange–with Def Jam. The album spawned hits such as “Thinkin Bout You.”
Since leaving Def Jam Records, Frank Ocean has been releasing singles–such as “In My Room”–under his record label, Blonded. However, he has not released a full-length album since 2016.
In his pursuit of finding a new record label, Frank Ocean is represented by Attorney Laurie Soriano, and she has reportedly:
“Been taking meetings and playing the music for execs as [Frank Ocean] plans his return.”
It’s worth noting that, while Frank Ocean is currently shopping his new album around, he previously expressed his distrust of big-name music labels. He stated in 2019:
“Well, f**king with major music companies, you’re going to be… deflowered. Anytime you get into the business side of the arts, there has to be some degree of objectification or commodification that you’re comfortable with, of yourself and of your work. A lot of people I talk to about careers in the music industry, their ideas of success have to do with nostalgia. They have to do with tropes of success, things they’ve been shown over the years that represent what a successful career is. I think that helps you become prey, because somebody can manipulate you with those things.”
