India Arie Says She’s Removing Her Music From Spotify Over Joe Rogan’s Comments On Race: ‘This Shows The Type of Company They Are’

It looks like India Arie is taking a stand and not backing down! The 46-year-old R&B singer has announced that she will be removing her music from the streaming platform, Spotify. This all stems from the company continuing to platform content from Joe Rogan–a podcast host/comedian who has repeatedly made false and derogatory claims about the Covid-19 vaccine.

India Arie is the latest music artist to announce her boycott of the streaming giant. On Monday (Jan.31), the singer took to social media to announce that she was following the footsteps of  Neil Young, and has decided to remove her music. She wrote,

“Neil Young opened a door that I must walk through…I believe in freedom of speech. However, I find Joe Rogan problematic for reasons other than his Covid interviews.”

India Arie went on to explain that Joe Rogan has also made racial comments that have bothered her.

“For me, it’s also his language around race..What I am talking about is RESPECT–who gets it and who doesn’t..

She then expressed her frustration with Spotify’s pay ratio when it comes to music artists.

“Paying musicians a fraction of a penny? And HIM $100M? This shows the type of company they are and the company that they keep…. I’m tired. “

During a recent episode of his podcast, Joe Rogan made some controversial comments about race, stating that it was strange to call someone Black or White based on their skin tone.

“There’s such a spectrum of shades of people..Unless you’re talking to someone who is like 100% African, from the darkest place, where they’re not wearing any clothes all day, and they’ve developed all that melanin to protect themselves from the sun, you know, even the term ‘Black’ is weird.”

Along with India Arie and Neil Young, other music artists have stepped up and declared the removal of their music from Spotify such as: Joni Mitchell, Graham Nash, and David Crosby.
