NBA Star Karl-Anthony Towns Posts Tribute to Late Mom After Scoring Career-High 60 Points In Game: Miss You Momma

The past few years have not been easy for Karl-Anthony Towns. The Minnesota Timberwolves star, 26, specifically dealt with a lot of grief during the coronavirus pandemic, losing a number of people close to him, including his mother Jacqueline Cruz. But Karl-Anthony Towns has continued on, notably putting up 60 points in his game against the San Antonio Spurs on March 14.

Karl-Anthony Towns revealed on Twitter that the game actually fell on the second anniversary of Cruz’s admission to the hospital. He called her his “guardian angel” and credited his victory to her. He wrote:

“Yesterday was two years to the date that my parents walked into the ER at JFK Medical Center in Edison, NJ and were admitted with COVID-19. The same hospital that my mother gave me life, and tragically, the same hospital where I saw her life begin to slip away.”

“Two years later, I walked into AT&T Center with the greatest guardian angel that I could ever ask for and dropped 60 against the winningest coach of all time,” he continued.

“I say this to say…no matter what life throws at you, you can come out of it stronger. Tough times don’t last, tough people do. Miss you Momma. This game….my life…is for you “

Towns has been open in the past about the grief of losing his mother and credits girlfriend Jordyn Woods for helping him get through it.

“I feel, like, in a way, when my mom passed, she said, ‘I’m not going to leave you alone. I’ma make sure you know who you’re supposed to be with,'” he recalled in an interview on Peace of Mind with Taraji.

He and Woods were longtime friends before they started dating in 2020. They went public in September of that year and remain together at the time of this writing. The model, 24, has also spoken highly of Towns, saying he’s someone who is always “in her corner” and pushes her to be “the best version” herself.
