Jussie Smollett Allegedly Only Drank Ice Water In Jail Prior To His Release
Following Jussie Smollett’s recent release from jail, it appears more information is coming to the surface! Smollett’s attorney, Nenye Uche, confirmed in a news conference that the former “Empire” star only consumed ice water in the six days he spent in jail. Reportedly, Uche said,
“Ice water, that’s been his food and liquid. I can only imagine if I was in jail for something I didn’t do, I wouldn’t be eating.”
Uche says it was Smollett’s decision to not eat food while in jail.
On Wednesday (Mar.16), an appeals court said Jussie Smollett could be released after posting a personal recognizance bond of $150,000– which means he doesn’t have to pay bail, but agrees to show up for court as required. Attorney Uche said that when he informed Smollett of his release, the 39-year-old actor became emotional.
“He pushed his hands on the glass, and his eyes got teary. I’ve never seen that because he’s been really strong in there. He nearly lost hope in our constitutional system…He was shocked. I think he had nearly given up.”
His attorney also took to social media to share the news of Smollett’s release.

As previously reported, Jussie Smollett had been sentenced on March 10 to 150 days in jail and required to pay a $25,000 fine and $120,000 in restitution to the city of Chicago for lying to police about an alleged hate crime in 2019.
The court order comes after lawyers for Jussie Smollett requested an emergency release for the embattled star due to “vicious threats” toward him and his family, including one from a man who wished sexual assault on Smollett.
During his trial and sentencing, Jussie Smollett maintained his innocence. Amid sentencing, Smollett stood up and announced that he was indeed innocent and was “not suicidal” in case anything happened to him in jail.
