A source close to the ‘Girls Trip’ actress says that while Jada  is not ”angry with” her husband, Will Smith, for slapping Chris Rock at this years Oscars ceremony, she “wishes he didn’t” get physical with the comedian. The source claims that the couple are ‘in agreement’ that Will Smith ‘overreacted.’

“It was in the heat of the moment and it was him [Will Smith] overreacting. He knows that, she [Jada] knows that. They’re in agreement that he overreacted.”

According to the insider, the ‘Set It Off ‘ actress didn’t want Will Smith to get in an altercation to defend her. The source shared:

“She’s not one of these women that needs protecting. He didn’t need to do what he did, she didn’t need protecting. She’s not a wallflower. She’s a strong woman, an opinionated woman and she can fight her own battles. But she will stand by him.”

As previously reported, during this years Oscars award ceremony, Will Smith charged onto the stage and slapped comedian Chris Rock across the face. The assault came after Rock joked that he was looking forward to a sequel to “G.I. Jane,” starring Jada Pinkett Smith who recently shaved her head due to her battle with alopecia.

After sitting back down, Will Smith shouted at Rock to “keep my wife’s name out of your f*** mouth.” 

Since the incident, Will Smith issued a public apology for the “unacceptable and inexcusable” actions that took place during the awards show.

“I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness…”

He continued,

“I would also like to apologize to the Academy, the producers of the show, all the attendees and everyone watching around the world. I would like to apologize to the Williams Family and my King Richard Family. I deeply regret that my behavior has stained what has been an otherwise gorgeous journey for all of us. I am a work in progress.”

In addition, Will Smith has made the decision to resign from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. He said in a statement:

“My actions at the 94th Academy Awards presentation were shocking, painful, and inexcusable. The list of those I have hurt is long and includes Chris, his family, many of my dear friends and loved ones, all those in attendance, and global audiences at home. I betrayed the trust of the Academy. I deprived other nominees and winners of their opportunity to celebrate and be celebrated for their extraordinary work. I am heartbroken. I want to put the focus back on those who deserve attention for their achievements and allow the Academy to get back to the incredible work it does to support creativity and artistry in film.”

Academy president David Rubin said in a statement:

“We have received and accepted Mr. Will Smith’s immediate resignation from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. We will continue to move forward with our disciplinary proceedings against Mr. Smith for violations of the Academy’s Standards of Conduct, in advance of our next scheduled board meeting on April 18.”
