Chris Rock–ABC Is Open To Having The Comedian Host The Oscars For A Second Time
It looks like Chris Rock may get the opportunity to host the Oscars for the second time!
After a memorable ceremony this year, ABC president Craig Erwich has opened the door to Chris Rock being a potential host for next year’s Academy Awards ceremony. Erwich told sources that despite Will Smith slapping Chris Rock, he thought it was a “really successful year for the show.” He explained,
“My assessment of the Oscars was that it was really a successful year for the show. Obviously there was a lot of controversy, which overshadowed a lot of the positive things about the show, but I was really happy with the program. Even before that very unfortunate moment, the show started off up year over year, and we came back in a big way.”
Erwhich also told sources that he’s open to Chris Rock hosting the 2023 ceremony. It would be one way to address the controversial topic head-on, and get it out of the way, so the focus could return to the nominees and not the scandalous moment that shocked the world.
As previously reported, at this year’s Oscars ceremony, Chris Rock was slapped in the face by Oscar winning actor Will Smith over a G.I. Jane joke, made at Will’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith’s expense.

Despite the controversial moment, this years Oscars appeared to be a success! The ceremony which was hosted by Wanda Sykes, Amy Schumer and Regina Hall, was reportedly up nearly 60% in audience and 73% in the key demo in comparison to last years hostless 2021 Oscars, capturing 16.6M viewers.
“It was the biggest bounce back of any award show this season. If you look at what they were trying to do, which is really bring entertainment back to the program, they had three amazing hosts, clips, and incredible musical performances, I thought it was a great way for the show to reclaim its place on the mantle. There’s always things to learn and we’ll endeavor to do even better next year.”
Chris Rock hosted the Oscars in 2016, making him one of the most memorable host to ever grace the stage. Between his jaw dropping jokes, witty banter, and addressing the controversial “Oscars So White” firestorm, he definitely set the bar high for future host.
