Remy Ma Says A Rapper Is Just A ‘Great Karaoke Personality’ If They Don’t Write Their Own Lyrics

Remy Ma believes that writing is fundamental for the world of rap music!

Rapper Remy Ma was on a recent episode of the “See, The Thing Is Podcast,” hosted by Bridget Kelly and Mandii B – when she was asked about the three top things every rapper needs.

Remy quickly answered their question starting off with:

“Contrary to popular belief again – you have to write it! You are the person that has to write it.”

Co-host Mandii B followed up by asking what to consider a rapper if they don’t write. She asked:

“So if someone is out, who is a rapper, and has never written their rhymes they’re not a rapper? They’re a performer?”

Remy answered her question and said:

“They’re a great karaoke personality. They’re great at karaoke!”

Remy Ma has always been vocal about the state of rap music, specifically female rap, and recently discussed the topic of writing on Math Hoffa‘s Expert Opinion podcast.

During the previous interview, when asked how important it is for a female to write her own lyrics, she said “it’s not important,” referencing her stance on today’s standards for what a female rapper should be. However, Remy stands firm in writing her own lyrics.

Another thing Remy mentioned in her interview with Bridget and Mandii is that wordplay is important to her when listening to rappers.

“Wordplay is very important. Most of the people that are considered the greats, they’re really smart. There’s this misconception that ‘ oh he’s just a rapper, rappers are dumb’ – yeah the wack ones!”
