Macy Gray Responds To Backlash Over Transgender Comments: My Statement Was Grossly Misunderstood, I Don’t Hate Anyone
Macy Gray is setting the record straight on her stance on the transgender community.
As we reported earlier today, Macy was the subject of backlash online after a clip of her discussing her thoughts with TV host Piers Morgan on “defining a woman” in today’s society.

In a statement shared to Billboard, Macy Gray said:
“I have nothing but love for the LGBTQ+ and transgender community and have been a supporter since day one. My statement on Piers Morgan was grossly misunderstood. I don’t hate anyone. I respect everyone’s right to feel comfortable in their bodies and live their own truth.”
During her appearance on Piers Morgan Uncensored, Macy said “just because you go change your parts doesn’t make you a woman,” in addition to other comments. She also said:
“Being a little girl is a whole epic book and you can’t have that because you wanna be a woman.”
When Piers Morgan mentioned other celebrities, including J.K. Rowling, who get backlash for similar comments, Gray said she doesn’t think people should be called transphobic for “just saying what it is.”
