Gunna Is All Smiles In A Video Call From Behind Bars As He Talks W/ His Family [WATCH]
Gunna appears to be in good spirits following the news that he will stay behind bars for the remainder of the year.
On July 17, a clip began circulating online of Atlanta rapper Gunna, born Sergio Giavanni Kitchens, checking in with his family while he awaits trial in his high-profile RICO case.
In the brief clip, Gunna was all smiles as he spoke to his loved ones over a video call from jail. Gunna joked around with his mother and godson over the phone while wearing a dark blue jumpsuit. The toddler sat in front of a laptop next to the rapper’s mother, as Gunna jokingly said:
“Shorty look like a real playa, though.”
As previously reported, Gunna has been denied bond twice. A Fulton County judge mentioned concerns that the 29-year-old may threaten or intimidate witnesses if he were released ahead of trial at his second bond request hearing earlier in July. The judge issued an order demanding defense attorneys withhold witness information from their clients. Gunna will remain in jail until his trial, which is set to take place on January 9, 2023.
In addition to this, prosecutors claimed a nurse attempted to smuggle a bag full of marijuana and cocaine into the jail meant for Gunna. The nurse allegedly was caught when a deputy confronted her and she dropped the drugs. Gunna’s defense team quickly shut down the claims.
On May 9, Gunna was arrested alongside Atlanta rapper Young Thug and 26 others on Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) charges. Prosecutors allege the rappers and their YSL collective (also known as Young Stoner Life and Young Slime Life) are a “criminal street gang” that have caused multiple murders, armed robberies, and participation in criminal street gang activity in Atlanta.
The “pushin P” rapper has been charged with one count of conspiracy to violate the RICO Act. Prosecutors reportedly tied Gunna to the alleged offense due to him wearing YSL chains and sharing content on social media that allegedly promoted the “criminal” collective.
In addition to Atlanta-based rappers Gunna and Young Thug, 30, the Atlanta District Attorney recently stated there will be two more high-profile RICO arrests made soon.
