Young Thug – A Witness In His RICO Case Fears For Their Life After Receiving Death Threats

A witness in the RICO case of rap star Young Thug and YSL associates is fearing for their life.

According to reports, Fulton County DA Fani Willis who is prosecuting the case, revealed that discovery documents – material one side turns over to another after an indictment to even the playing field before trial – is being leaked online. Of those documents, was reportedly the statement of a cooperating YSL member, who Willis says is now receiving death threats from

“gang sympathizers”.

As previously reported, Atlanta rapper Young Thug – born Jeffrey Williams, 30, and 28 associates were arrested back in May of this year on conspiracy to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) charges.

Reportedly, the prosecution discovered a document and part of a cooperating witness’ statement posted on social media. Subsequently, Willis motioned a court judge to restrict defense lawyers from giving discovery documents to their clients, noting they they can still review them. She stated:

“We’re having to ask for further restrictions making it even more clear that this is inappropriate to be able to share information with the general public,”

She continued:

“We’re going to have to do things to make sure that the witnesses are safe.  We need people to understand that they can cooperate. They can do the right thing and the state will be here to protect them.”

The Georgia DA added that the witness has “absolutely” received death threats that she does not believe are idle. Thug’s lawyer Brian Steel, who has maintained his clients innocence since the May arrest, also seemingly wants the information leak to stop. He stated:
“Whomever is placing items of discovery online is not doing anybody a favor. It is totally inappropriate to try this case in social media. This case will be tried fairly and justly in Fulton County Superior Court,”

Additional charges to the case, that also saw the arrest of Thug’s fellow Atlanta rapper Giovanni ‘Gunna‘ Kitchens, 29, were brought against the “Bestfriend” rapper earlier this month. Both musicians remain behind until their trial, set to begin at the start of the new year.
