Jay-Z Addresses Meek Mill’s Abrupt Departure From Roc Nation After 10-Year Partnership: I Freed That N***a From A Whole Bid
Jay-Z and Meek Mill’s “beef” has been cleared up.
On Friday (Aug. 26) DJ Khaled released his latest album “God Did” featuring artists such as Jay-Z, Kanye West, Rick Ross, Lil Durk, Drake and more! During DJ Khaled’s “God Did” track, Jay-Z, born Shawn Corey Carter, addressed Meek Mill’s split from Roc Nation following their 10-year partnership, which came to an end in July. Jay-Z’s estimated four-minute verse cleared up suspicions of any issues he might have had with Meek Mill. The Brooklyn native raps:
“Me and Meek could never beef, I freed that n-gga from a whole bid, Hov did.”
The 52-year-old continued:
“Next time we have a discussion who the G.O.A.T., you donkeys know this.”
In the past, the father of three wrote an op-ed about Meek’s imprisonment and also spent millions of dollars on the rapper’s legal fees. In 2018, Meek admitted:
“JAY-Z is actually responsible for some of my legal fees.”
Meek, born Robert Rihmeek Williams, continued:
“Which I thought was the dopest in the world because it was some millions of dollars. I don’t even think I could have afforded it.”
As previously reported, after news broke that Meek left Roc Nation, he assured fans that there were no issues between him and Jay-Z. Meek took to Twitter and said:
“All I seen today was meek and roc part ways.”
The 35-year-old continued:
“I’m personally handling my own business so I can take risk and grow ..we came to that agreement together..I have a label deal with roc for my artist and I got reform super tied with them and many other investments wit jigga.”
He added:
“And roc nation is my family don’t mix my post aimed at Atlantic mixed up with roc or MMG …they ain’t stop nothing I’m doing we made about a 100m together des mike and Hov saved my life b4 And put a lot of energy into it I’m not behind on my favors in life wit my people I’m good.”
In 2019, the MMG rapper elaborated on how Jay-Z changed his feelings about business. He said:
“He’s just a different type of guy.”
The “1942 Flows” rapper continued:
“He’s about his business. He’s never late, he’s on point. He’s checking on his business every chance he gets. Basically, I’ve seen JAY-Z, and then I’ve watched other artists who came up around his time. He actually built something.”
Meek added:
“He built businesses, and he built things that made him become the man who he is, that we could call a billionaire guy. He built that, and I watched that, and I studied that. That’s why I’m working the way I’m working now to build a foundation for myself too.”
Following his departure from Roc Nation, Meek shared plans to release 10 independent mixtapes, starting in September. The rapper tweeted back in July:
“10 tapes independently starting September. New music dropping August 18 the day my dad died is when I start wylinnnnnnn again! I’m not dropping albums on Friday either!”
