Christopher ‘Play’ Martin Confirms LeBron James Is VERY Involved In “House Party” Reboot
The House Party reboot may not have come when fans wanted it, but it’s definitely still in the works.
The reimagining of the film will be produced by LeBron James’ SpringHill Company and Maverick Carter.
Christopher Martin, who makes up half the ’90s hip-hop duo Kid ‘N Play, recently spilled just a little bit of tea about the reimagining of the classic film. In response to how “deeply involved” LeBron James is, he said,
“He’s very involved. He has complete ownership, to my understanding, at this point. The release was supposed to be on HBO Max [on] July 28 and then no one knew what happened because it got pulled from the schedule. I’ll leave it like this, from a very reliable source — it probably don’t get no more reliable than the king himself — that now it’s going to be a theatrical release.”
He continued,
“I don’t know how people will feel about how good the film itself will be, that we’ll have to see. But with all of that being said, I think it’s exciting. I think it’s exciting for Kid and I, I think it’s exciting for a new generation of actors that are involved now. When you’re dealing with a classic, it kind of speaks for itself. … The people involved are very talented.”
Christopher Martin said he hasn’t officially met the guy who will portray him in the remake. He also failed to confirm whether he will make a cameo in the film, noting that he didn’t want to “speak out of turn” as it relates to his and Kid‘s involvement. He did, however, give props to LeBron James for showing them nothing but love.
According to Martin,
“There’s a lot going on in Kid ‘N Play’s life right now, so we do a lot of things. Some things get lost in the shuffle.”
In addition to Christopher “Play” Martin, the original House Party film series starred Christopher “Kid” Reid, as well as Tisha Martin, Martin Lawrence, A. J. Johnson, Daryl “Chill” Mitchell and the music group Full Force.
During an exclusive interview with theJasmineBRAND in 2018, Martin shared that Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff (real name Jeffrey Allen Townes) were almost cast in the film over Kid ‘N Play.
The reimagining of the film is at least four years in the making. It will feature The Chi actor Jacob Latimore and Tosin Cole as leads. Melvin Gregg (Snowfall, The United States vs. Billie Holiday), Rotimi (Power, Coming 2 America) and Allen Maldonado (Blackish, Straight Outta Compton) will also be in the film.
