Dave Chappelle Calls Will Smith An ‘Ugly’ Person Over Oscars Slap: He Ripped His Mask Off & Showed Us He Was As Ugly As The Rest Of Us

It looks like Dave Chappelle still has some strong opinions on Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at this year’s Academy Awards.

During a comedy show at Liverpool’s M&S Arena on Thursday (Sept. 1), Dave Chappelle, 49, dissed Will Smith, 53. Dave called out the King Richard star for showing his true colors. He said,

“Will did the impression of a perfect person for 30 years, and he ripped his mask off and showed us he was as ugly as the rest of us.”

Even though some would say the comedian insulted the ‘Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ star, Dave Chappelle did call on Will to be more authentic and true to himself. He continued,

“I hope he doesn’t put his mask back on again, and lets his real face breath..I see myself in both men.”

Chris Rock, 53, also performed that night alongside Dave Chappelle. Dave asked Chris if the slap “hurt.” Reportedly, he said the slap was indeed painful, and that the joke that he’d made about Jada Pinkett-Smith’s bald hairstyle (due to her alopecia) wasn’t hurtful enough to warrant a slap. Chris said,

“The m**********r hit me over a bulls**t joke. The nicest joke I ever told.”

As previously reported, at the 2022 Academy Awards, actor Will Smith stormed onstage and slapped comedian Chris Rock over a joke made about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith, 50.

Chris Rock said,

“Jada, can’t wait for G.I. Jane 2.”

After hitting RockSmith then walked back to his seat and shouted at the comedian to keep his wife’s name out of his

“f*cking mouth.”

Dave Chappelle had his own run-in with someone climbing on stage and attacking him during a comedy show at the Hollywood Bowl in May. He addressed the incident in a statement by his representative Carla Sims. His rep said at the time,

“The performances by Chappelle at the Hollywood Bowl were epic and record-breaking and he refuses to allow last night’s incident to overshadow the magic of this historic moment.”

Chris Rock recently came under fire for making yet another inappropriate joke. As previously reported, Chris Rock was performing in Phoenix, Arizona, on Sunday (Aug. 28) when he revealed that he was asked to host the 2023 Oscars after he was slapped by Will Smith.

The 57-year-old comedian then referenced O.J Simpson’s 1995 murder trial, saying that returning to the Oscars would be like asking deceased Nicole Simpson “to go back to the restaurant,” where her mother left a pair of glasses the night Nicole died.

Nicole Simpson was killed in 1994, at the age of 35, in a brutal double homicide. Her friend Ron Goldman was also murdered that night as he was returning the pair of glasses to her at her home. Her ex-husband O.J. Simpson was accused of the murders and stood trial in a spectacle that captivated the nation, and he was famously acquitted.

Nicole’s family was deeply disturbed by Rock’s inappropriate joke. Her sister Tanya Brown, said equating getting slapped at the Oscars to a gruesome double homicide is apples to oranges. She also thinks it’s lacking in logic and a basic connection. The ‘Spiral’ actor received backlash for the joke, with several fans agreeing that it was insensitive and didn’t make sense.
