R. Kelly Injured In Jail, Asks Judge To Appear Virtually For His Upcoming Sentencing After Being Found Guilty Of Six Federal Child Pornography Charges

R&B singer R. Kelly has reportedly suffered a recent injury behind bars.

According to reports, the musician is asking a judge to allow him to appear for his upcoming sentencing via computer due to hurting his leg. As previously reported, Robert R. Kelly, 55, was found guilty on six counts of federal child pornography charges in Illinois earlier this week (September 14th). The singer is currently serving a 30 year sentence for sex trafficking of a minor and racketeering charges.

Reports state that the “Ignition” singer’s lawyers stated that his injury makes it hard for him to move around. Kelly is set to appear in New York on September 28th to be sentenced for his federal child pornorgaphy charges. His attorney reportedly wrote in the request:

“Undersigned counsel writes to respectfully request that Defendant Kelly be permitted to appear via zoom for the September 28th, 2022, restitution hearing,”

Adding:

“Mr. Kelly is currently housed at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago, Illinois. Mr. Kelly has sustained an injury to his leg that makes traveling challenging and uncomfortable.”

It’s reportedly unclear how Kelly sustained the injury, but the incident did occur the day after his conviction. Things have been continuously rocky for the jailed musician this past month. Earlier this week (September 12th), a judge also ordered Kelly to relinquish the $28,000 he collected in inmate commissary. The funds will reportedly be used to cover part of his $140,000 court fines which will be paid as restitution for his victims.

His arrotorney, Jennifer Bonjean, called the seizure unethical, stating they plan to appeal the ruling immediately. She wrote via Twitter:

“After seizing his funds and after sending this email, @EDNYnews decided to file a motion to confiscate his trust account money. You’re supposed to do that BEFORE you take the money.”

At this time judge has yet to decide if Kelly will be allowed to attend the hearing virtually or not.
