Coolio’s Long-Time Partner Shares His Cremation Wishes & Says She Was Well Aware of Other Women In His Life
Coolio’s Long-Time Partner Shares His Cremation Wishes & Says She Was Well Aware of Other Women In His Life
Coolio (real name Artis Leon Ivey Jr.) has gone on to a “Gangster’s Paradise,” and his long-time partner is now sharing their love story.
According to Mimi Ivey, the rapper told his family he wanted to be cremated and he did not want a funeral, clear instructions they plan to honor. The pair had been in a long-term partnership since 2012 and reportedly had no secrets, not even regarding infidelity. In fact, they had an understanding.

Mimi Ivey said,
“We were best friends. We would talk about everything and joke and laugh about everything. There was never a dull moment being with him. He was an eccentric, a storyteller. He loved life. He loved his family, his career, and he loved to make people smile.”
She added,
“He was who he was. If he was seeing other women, I knew about it. There’s nothing that man ever did that he hid from me. We talked about everything. I knew his whole life. We had no secrets.”

The 61-year-old exotic dancer, chef, businesswoman and mother of three claims to have first met Coolio in 2004, though they did not get along. It wasn’t until seven years later, when a mutual acquaintance reintroduced them, that they began dating. By that point, her soon to be other half wouldn’t accept no for an answer.
Despite not being officially married, Mimi Ivey referred to Coolio as her “husband” on social media and adopted his last name. They visited the courts and completed the paperwork, she claimed, but ultimately chose not to turn it in.
According to Mimi,
“It’s just a piece of paper that doesn’t change how either one of us felt about each other.”
She claimed Coolio was a husband in every aspect and a father to her children from a prior relationship even without the legal designations, with her daughter even formally asking him to be her father. Aside from a four-month breakup following the stress of Celebrity Wife Swap in 2013, the couple was very much in love and happy with their arrangement.

In response to finding out he died, Mimi said,
“I just remember all of the air and life coming out of my body,’ she said. ‘I was outside, getting ready to take my son to football practice. All I remember was dropping to my knees. I collapsed.”
According to a source close to the artist, even lifelong pals had been left off the invitation list for the planned cremation event. The insider went on to say that they thought Coolio, who fathered 10 children, wanted to keep the celebration low-key in part to prevent any conflicts between his numerous baby mothers.
Mimi shared,
“I’m respecting his wishes. He wanted to be cremated. He did not want a funeral; he did not want a memorial service. He didn’t want any of that.”
As previously reported, Coolio passed away on Wednesday, September 28, while visiting a friend’s house. According to his manager, he went to use the restroom and when he didn’t return or answer to his name being called, the friend walked in and saw Coolio lying on the floor. Although no formal cause of death has been disclosed, it is believed he went into cardiac arrest. Coolio was 59.
Regardless, according to Mimi,
“He lived a very wonderful life. You have no choice when you are going to get taken out of this world. It’s a shock, but there’s no way you can ever prepare for this.”
