Producers Hit-Boy & No I.D. Reveal They Made Beyonce’s ‘Church Girl’ &  ‘Thique’ Years Before ‘Renaissance’ Album Dropped

It looks like a couple of the tracks from Beyonce’s latest album ‘Renaissance’ aren’t so new after all!

During a recent interview on The Rap Caviar Podcast, producers Hit-Boy and No I.D. revealed that they created the beats for Beyonce’s ‘Church Girl’ and ‘Thique’ years before she released her latest album, ‘Renaissance.

During the latest episode, producer No. I.D revealed that he created the beat for ‘Church Girl’ four and a half years ago. He explained,

“I did the ‘Church Girl’ beat about four and a half years ago and it just sat in  [Jay-Z’s] computer. I forgot about it. And then I get a call like, ‘Yo.’ And I’m like, ‘Oh, word?'”

No I.D.

He continued,

“I actually did  [the beat] in their house and I just left it in the computer, I didn’t even think about it. I’m like, ‘No, you’re gonna do this record.’ And then time goes by and I’m like, ‘Oh, you’re not gonna do the record.’

When asked how did he find out that the song was going to be used after all this time, No I.D. replied,

“I mean, they just called me and was like, ‘Yo.’ I was like, ‘Let me hear it’ and was like, ‘Okay.'”

Producer Hit-Boy then revealed he did the beat for Beyonce‘s song ‘Thique’ back in 2014.

“I did the ‘Thique’ beat in 2014. I made that in the same session I did ‘Feeling Myself’ with Nicki and Beyonce and she held it for eight years and just put it out…She loved it, it just didn’t work out, just the timing, man.”

He continued,

“It didn’t work out for where she was at sonically at that moment. But she always loved the beat. I guess she pulled it back up, finished it and was like, ‘this what I’m on, so I’m about to add it to the album.'”

Renaissance is the seventh studio album by Beyoncé and was released on July 29, 2022, making this her first solo studio release since 2016’s Lemonade and the first installment of a trilogy project.

The album received widespread acclaim from music critics for its eclectic yet cohesive sound, upbeat mood, and Beyoncé’s vocal performance. The lead single “Break My Soul” was released on June 20, 2022, and reached number one on several charts worldwide, including the US Billboard Hot 100.

While fans have sung the praises of ‘Renaissance’ and it’s received rave reviews, there are some other people in the industry who don’t share the same sentiments.

‘I’m Too Sexy’ artists Right Said Fred, a pop duo made up of brothers Fred and Richard Fairbrass, referred to the Grammy-Award-winning artist as arrogant after claiming she did not request permission to use their 1991 hit as a sample for her song ‘Alien Superstar.’

Right Said Fred stated:

“Normally the artist approaches us but Beyoncé didn’t because she is such an arrogant person she just had probably thought “come and get me” so we heard about it after the fact when you did. But everyone else, Drake and Taylor Swift, they came to us.”

They continued,

“To use our melody they need our permission so they send us the demo and we approve it and if so we get a co-write credit. With this Beyoncé thing there are 22 writers it’s ridiculous so we would get about 40p.”

The brothers ultimately admitted that they are powerless in the business disagreement.

Right Said Fred added,

“You are going to get into a conversation with someone who has a lot more presence and power and money than we do – and that won’t go well. … It is sh*t … it’s best to let it go. If you’re not careful you spend your life looking back. We keep looking forward the whole time.”
