Oprah Reveals She Underwent Back-To-Back Knee Surgeries Last Year: I Literally Could Not Lift My Leg

Entertainment mogul Oprah Winfrey recently opened up about a previous health scare.

The billionaire OWN network founder revealed and detailed her back-to-back knee surgeries last year, and discussed the commitment she made to herself afterward. Oprah Winfrey, 68, opened up about the experience during her class on gratitude called “The Life You Want” this past Wednesday (October 12th).

During the segment, she stated:

“I had double knee surgery last year. I had knee surgery in August, and then I had another knee surgery in November. When I came home the first time, I literally could not lift my leg,”

She continued:

“I couldn’t lift my heel off of the bed, and I vowed if I was ever able to get up, walk around, and move again—that I would take advantage of movement, exercise, and of being able to be fully in my body.”

Just last month, Winfrey made internet headlines after a few of her close friends, including her bestie and famed broadcaster Gayle King accused her of tricking them into an intense hiking trip. Reportedly, the event happened during the celebration of Winfrey’s other close friend and famed director Ava DuVernay.

The TV producer allegedly told her guests they would be going on a 5 – 7 minute hike, which was actually 5 -7 miles, totaling 50 minutes long. At one point in the video, you can see Winfrey attempting to explain herself while King is visibly over the workout, drenched in sweat.

However, it seems the journey was part of Winfrey’s promise to keep herself moving post-surgery. The TV host says that hiking has become part of her regular routine since going through rehab. She stated:

As I was rehabilitating, I started hiking. Everyday, I tried to hike more and do more. My appreciation for every organ and every limb has expanded exponentially. So, you mentioning that really brought that home to me.

According to reports, the actress may also be gearing up for another onscreen appearance. Winfrey reportedly discussed returning to the big screen should “something perfect” come along during the 2022 Variety’s The Power Of Women issue. Though she has executive produced several movie and TV projects, Winfrey hasn’t made an acting appearance since her 2020 role in the movie The Water Man.
