Nicki Minaj Slams Grammys Again Over ‘Super Freaky Girl’ Category Change: Certain Members Are Afraid To Keep It In The Competition
It looks like Nicki Minaj is still unhappy with the Grammys!
As you may recall, Nicki Minaj has been taking shots at the Grammys since last week when it was announced that her hit single “Super Freaky Girl” was being moved from the Grammy’s rap category to the pop category.
Now, a recent Variety Magazine article has the New York rapper angry all over again. The article details the rapper’s other songs that made their way to the rap category for the Grammys. While some would be pleased by this, Nicki Minaj feels otherwise. In a string of Instagram posts, the “Super Bass” rapper continued to slam the Grammys as well as Variety.
In an Instagram Story on Tuesday morning (Oct. 18), Minaj wrote:
“The Grammys is having blogs post that Variety article to distract you from the fact that ‘SUPER FREAKY GIRL’ was unfairly moved from the rap category while other poppy rap songs remain in the RAP CATEGORY.”
She continued,
“They’re having blogs post that I pulled a ‘stunt’ and that it worked b/c ‘Do We Have a Problem’ is being submitted in rap categories. But what does ‘SFG’ have to do with “DWHAP????”
Nicki Minaj continued her rant by accusing the Grammys of intentionally and strategically moving her song “Super Freaky Girl” out of the rap category. She said,
“It was done to decrease my chances of winning awards for ‘Super Freaky Girl.’ It was done to remove me from the category that they don’t want COMPETITION in!!!!!!! They are all scared to death of the success of that song & thought it would be super EASY for them (like it’s been for the last few years) but ‘SFG’ is such a global smash, certain members are AFRAID to keep it in the competition.”
“Super Freaky Girl” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in August and has spent eight weeks atop Billboard’s hot rap songs chart. Minaj has suggested that the category switch was part of a broader agenda to celebrate rising rap artists over veterans.
As previously reported, Latto’s hit song, “Big Energy,” has been submitted for consideration in at least one Grammy rap category. Nicki Minaj was displeased by this announcement and took to social media to vent to her followers.
In her opinion, if “Super Freaky Girl” wasn’t going to be considered for any rap categories, neither should Latto’s “Big Energy,” as it is also considered a more pop-based song. Things turned into an all-out feud between the rappers when Minaj expressed that she felt Latto should have spoken up publicly and defended her. The two rappers attempted to discuss things privately, however, the private conversation boiled over into a public debate.
