‘Saturday Night Live’ Criticized For Letting Dave Chappelle Host
Some are not pleased with Saturday Night Live‘s decision to let Dave Chappelle host.
The late-night television comedy sketch show shared the news on Tuesday via its social media channels. While some fans (and critics) are excited about seeing Dave Chappelle on their TV screens, others are expressing their disappointment with SNL for allowing a “transphobic” host.
Former Netflix employee Terra Field said,
“Wait I thought I cancelled him. Is it possible cancel culture isn’t a real thing??”

As previously reported, Dave Chappelle found himself at the center of backlash over comments he made in his Netflix stand up comedy special The Closer.
The popular comic made more than a few controversial jokes throughout his show, describing the #MeToo movement as “annoying as f**k” and recalling an incident in which he beat up a lesbian for punching him.
Later, he declared himself to be a TERF—a trans-exclusionary radical feminist—someone who does not consider trans women to be women. Chappelle said,
“I’m team TERF! Gender is a fact. Every human being in this room, every human being on Earth, had to pass through the legs of a woman to be on Earth. That is a fact. Now, I am not saying that to say trans women aren’t women, I am just saying that those p*ssies that they got… you know what I mean? I’m not saying it’s not p*ssy, but it’s Beyond P*ssy or Impossible P*ssy. It tastes like p*ssy, but that’s not quite what it is, is it? That’s not blood, that’s beet juice.”
Chappelle then said he was done making jokes about the LGBTQ community, before adding,
“I’m done talking about it. All I ask of your community, with all humility: will you please stop punching down on my people.”
Chappelle was specifically referencing the LGBTQ community criticizing Black men like him, Da Baby, and Kevin Hart for making comments that were openly homophobic. The special finished shortly after this moment.

Terra Field, who served as co-vice president of the transgender staff resource group at Netflix, left the streaming service in protest of the comedy special in November of last year and later organized a walkout.
And she’s most certainly not the only person who called out SNL for having him on the show.
One Twitter user said,
“Having Dave Chappelle host SNL again is a slap in the face to trans people, including one of their own new cast members. What the h*ll Lorne?!”

Another user added,
“It’s so easy to not bring transphobic Dave Chappelle on the show. Why did you do it anyway?”

There was even a thread that consisted of people replying to SNL‘s announcement with a photo of actor Don Cheadle wearing a “Protect Trans Kids” tees.
And the comments from people who are less than thrilled to see Chappelle host were not limited to Twitter.
One Instagram user said,
“Who keeps picking terrible and controversial people on the show?! Isn’t he still in trouble for making transphobic jokes on his Netflix special? Plus every time he’s on the show, he saids the n word completely uncensored on live tv. Surprised they haven’t got the trouble with the FCC for that.”

Another one added,
“oh okay the transphobia jumped out!!!!!! and you wanna run around promoting wow we have our first non-binary cast member……. pick a lane”
