Drake Ties w/ Jay-Z For Most #1s On Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Album Chart
Rap superstar Drake is cementing new milestones in his music career.
According to reports, the Toronto native has officially checked off another accolade, tying with rap icon Jay-Z for having the most albums reach #1 on Billboard’s R&B/Hip Hop chart. The achievement follows the release of his most recent project “Her Loss,” a collaborative album with fellow rapper 21 Savage, which debuted earlier this month.
Reportedly, the success of “Her Loss” marks Drake’s 14th album to hit #1 on the chart and 21‘s 3rd. The OVO founder’s two other most recent projects, “Honestly, Nevermind” and “Certified Lover Boy” also added to the musician’s latest achievement. Roc Nation head and Hip-Hop veteran Jay-Z has long sat on the top of the most #1 albums list, with the likes of Kanye West and Eminem trailing behind him. However, it looks like Drake was ultimately the first to tie the elusive position with one of his idols.
Reports state that Drake is also closer to another Billboard chart record, which is also currently held by Hov. According to reports, “Her Loss” additionally charted Billboard’s top 200, which records #1 singles. To date, Jay-Z simultaneously holds the record of having the most album #1’s than any other solo artist. It is noted, however, that Jay remains 5 records short of having more #1’s than anyone in Billboard history. An accolade that currently remains held by the British rock band The Beatles.
Drake received his 12th #1 song to chart Billboard’s top 200 with his most recent project and 21‘s 3rd. It may not be long before Young Money member sets another record, tying or maybe surpassing Jay-Z.
