Al Roker Set To Make ‘Today Show’ Return This Week, Two Months After Blood Clot Health Scare

It looks like Al Roker is making his big return to the “Today Show” this Friday (Jan. 6) following a two-month hiatus after being hospitalized for blood clots in his lungs and legs.

The 68-year-old weatherman has been absent from the morning show since November due to a blood clot diagnosis that caused him to spend a total of four weeks in the hospital. At the time, Al Roker took to Instagram to share a health update with “Today” fans, explaining that he had been hospitalized.

Roker wrote:

“So many of you have been thoughtfully asking where I’ve been. Last week I was admitted to the hospital with a blood clot in my leg which sent some clots into my lungs.”

He continued,

“After some medical whack-a-mole, I am so fortunate to be getting terrific medical care and on the way to recovery. Thanks for all the well wishes and prayers and hope to see you soon.”

Al Roker was initially released from the hospital on Thanksgiving, but had to be rushed back a day later due to “complications.” After spending four weeks in total at the hospital, he went home on December 8, and four days later, made his virtual return to the “Today Show.”

Now, after nearly two months, Al Roker is set to officially return to his place of work!

Al Roker’s co-hosts Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb shared the news of his impending return during Tuesday (Jan. 3) morning’s show, when they re-shared footage of themselves singing Christmas carols outside his home last month while the tv-personality was still recovering.

During Tuesday morning’s show, Savannah Guthrie said,

‘He’s obviously been in the hospital, he dealt with health issues, he’s home for the last few weeks.”

She then revealed,

“We have some great news to share this morning, Al is coming back to the show.”

Hoda Kotb then chimed in:

“It was like, “When? When?” Well we have our day, he’ll be here Friday, he’ll be right here in Studio 1A…This is his place, he’ll be in his seat, right where he belongs. I cannot wait for that, can you believe it?”

During Christmas, Al Roker took to Instagram and shared another update on his progress, telling his followers that he was “so grateful” to have been able to spend the holiday season with his family.

“So grateful to have experienced another Christmas and to be with my family…We make assumptions and plans and they can [be] upended in an instant. You think you are grateful and show gratitude.”

He continued,

“And then, you realize, suddenly, that the depth of those words are so much deeper. I can never thank all of you who prayed for us enough.”
