Alec Baldwin To Be Charged w/ Involuntary Manslaughter In Fatal Shooting On ‘Rust’ Film Set
Terrible news for Alec Baldwin.
According to reports, actor Alec Baldwin will be charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter in the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. First Judicial District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies said the film’s armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, is facing the same charge. In addition, the film’s assistant director David Halls,
“has signed a plea deal for the charge of negligent use of a deadly weapon.”
The prosecutor added:
“If any one of these three people—Alec Baldwin, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed or David Halls—had done their job, Halyna Hutchins would be alive today. It’s that simple.”

Both charges are considered fourth-degree felonies, punishable by up to 18 months behind bars and a $5,000 fine. However, if a jury finds Alec Baldwin and Gutierrez-Reed guilty of the most serious charges that carry a firearm enhancement, they could face up to five years in prison.
Under the basic involuntary manslaughter charge, prosecutors would need to prove underlying negligence played a role in Halyna Hutchins’ death. According to prosecutors, That charge would also “likely” merge with a misdemeanor charge of negligent use of a firearm.
With the other charge — involuntary manslaughter in the commission of a lawful act — prosecutors will be required to prove factors beyond simple negligence contributed to Hutchins’ death. The prosecutor added a closer look into the evidence “clearly shows a pattern of criminal disregard for safety” on the film’s set.

As previously reported, in October 2021, the 64-year-old actor held a Colt .45-caliber pistol that fired a live round killing Halyna Hutchins while they were working on the film “Rust.” Baldwin has since expressed remorse about Halyna Hutchins’ tragic death and alleged he didn’t intentionally fire the weapon. He also added that he had no idea that the gun held live ammunition during filming. Baldwin previously said:
“There are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother and deeply admired colleague of ours. I’m fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred and I am in touch with her husband, offering my support to him and his family. My heart is broken for her husband, their son, and all who knew and loved Halyna.”
The charges will be formally filed by the end of this month setting the case in motion, according to reports.
