Update: Matt Barnes Granted Restraining Order Against Fiancee’s Ex-Husband After Spitting Incident
Update: (Jan. 26, 2023): Matt Barnes has gotten his wish!
According to new reports, Barnes was granted a temporary restraining order against David Patterson Jr. — the man he spat on during an NFL game — on Wednesday (Jan. 25). Reportedly, the court-ordered protection from Patterson Jr. — who is the ex-husband of Barnes’ fiancée — is slated to last until Feb. 16, which is when a hearing on the matter will take place in Los Angeles.
As part of the order, Patterson Jr. is required to have no contact with Barnes and must stay at least 100 yards away from the retired NBA player. In addition, Patterson Jr. has also been ordered to have no firearms.

On Sunday (Jan. 22) former NBA star Matt Barnes was reportedly involved in an altercation with his fiancée’s, Anansa Sims, ex-husband at the 49ers vs Cowboys playoff game. During the incident, Matt Barnes ejected saliva in the direction of David Patterson Jr. Thankfully, the two men were soon separated by bystanders.
David Patterson Jr. is a former NFL player who signed with the Atlanta Falcons at the start of his professional career in 2007. The 37-year-old was married to Anansa Sims for seven years and the ex-couple had three children together before splitting up. Prior to their divorce, they appeared on the reality TV show “Beverly’s Full House.” David Patterson Jr. left the league after suffering a serious injury.

Following the incident on Tuesday (Jan. 24) Barnes filed a temporary restraining order in Los Angeles County. According to Barnes, Patterson Jr., “hunted” him down and “aggressively confronted” him. Barnes also claimed that Patterson Jr. threw foul language at him and incited the crowd around them,
“into a frenzy by yelling out my full name repeatedly.”
The NBA champion also alleged that his fiancée’s ex,
“shoved me, and I was forced to push him off of me.”
The 42-year-old continued:
“I did not want the altercation to physically escalate further, and out of frustration with him seeking me out and his unrelenting repeated harassment I spit in his direction in disgust.”
He added that Patterson “is jealous of my relationship with his ex-wife,” and said that he’s a former defensive tackle at Ohio State that threatened to shoot him last year.

Last October, Patterson’s fiancée, Melisa Andino, accused the former Memphis Grizzlies player of mistreating the three kids shared by Patterson and Sims and filed a restraining order against him
Police shared that they will be investigating Barnes for alleged battery.

As previously reported, Barnes asked for Sims’ hand in marriage during the holiday season. On Dec. 26 Anansa Sims took to Instagram to announce her engagement with her now-fiancé, Matt Barnes.
