If you didn’t already know, Jay-Z, born Shawn Carter, isn’t a fan of capturing every moment on camera. The music mogul was even spotted politely dismissing a photographer during this year’s Roc Nation brunch. A video of Jay-Z walking through the party went viral, showing him calmly waving his hand at a photographer who appeared to try to get that perfect shot.

During his conversation with TIDAL, the New York rapper explained,

“Yeah, we don’t come from that school. We come from the don’t-you-ever-record-us school. What was the line?”

According to reports, he quoted his lyrics from 2013’s “Oceans” and continued,

“‘See me in sh*t you never saw / If it wasn’t for these pictures you wouldn’t see me at all.‘”

He added,

“We come from that school and we had fights over that. N*gg*s trying to record — ‘Aye yo, don’t record me, champ. I ain’t into that.’ We come from a different world.”

Jay also explained that this is “why ‘The Black Album’ was so special.” He said,

“it was the first time cameras came into the studios and just lived with us.”

On the business side of things, the Roc Nation founder officially resolved his $2 billion dispute with Bacardi over D’Usse.

As previously reported, Jay and a Bacardi Ltd. affiliate resolved their dispute over their multi-billion dollar cognac joint venture, D’Usse. The settlement was announced in a press release shared on February 3, revealing an associate of Bacardi will purchase a majority of Jay’s 50% stake in D’Usse LLC, leaving the liquor giant to own at least 75% of the company.

The rap icon will retain “a significant ownership stake” through his business SCLiquor LLC. In a statement, he noted the venture is “a blessing,” while also pointing out its growth. He said,

“I am excited to renew this partnership with Bacardi.”
