No other male/female rapper has mastered the mic quite like icons Jay-Z and Nicki Minaj, according to Billboard and VIBE!
In honor of this year marking the 50th anniversary of hip-hop, the famed publications recently concluded their ’50 Greatest Rappers of All Time ‘ list. However, the controversial roll-out has since sparked mayhem within the music-head community, with most debating the validity of the collective and the weight that it holds — not only lyrically but globally.
In the highly-anticipated ‘Top 10’ reveal, Jay-Z sits as ‘King’ of the dynamic catalog, while fellow lyricists Kendrick Lamar (#2), Nas (#3), Tupac (#4), Eminem (#5), The Notorious B.I.G. (#6), Lil Wayne (#7), Drake (#8), Snoop Dogg (#9), and Nicki Minaj (#10) occupy the seats that follow.

Although Missy Elliott, Lauryn Hill, Lil Kim, Queen Latifah, and MC Lyte also round out the full register, Nicki Minaj happens to be the only rhymer among the women to grace the ‘Top 10.’
Reportedly, upon casting their votes, the board of the entertainment-based magazines deliberated on a number of key elements that targeted emcees in North America only. The deciding factors for the nominees solely focused on their musical achievements, cultural influence, artistic longevity, and flow consistency.

Of course, the unveiling of the honorable tally left many awaiting answers, as fans question the absence of Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion, Remy Ma, and even the newer generation’s breakout star, Latto.
A social media user wrote:
“Whoever created that top 50 greatest rappers of all time list needs to be fired immediately.”

Additionally, others had reservations about the placement of the artists, wondering how a lot of the uber-successful rappers were (seemingly) pushed toward the latter part of the list.
Another individual added,
“The thing about Billboard and Vibe’s list of the top 50 greatest rappers of all time is that every rapper on that list deserves to be there.”
They continued:
“However, the arrangement doesn’t seem proper. Except longevity is a criteria, I won’t place Nas & Jay Z ahead of 2pac, any day.”
