Whoopi Goldberg Issues Apology After Using Romani Slur On ‘The View’: ‘When You’re A Certain Age You Use Words You Know From When You’re A Kid’

Whoopi Goldberg has issued another apology to fans of “The View.”

On Wednesday’s (Mar. 15) episode of ABC’s “The View,” co-host Whoopi Goldberg offended some viewers by using a Romani slur while discussing Donald Trump. Reportedly, she said the former president’s supporters believed he was “gypped” from winning the 2020 presidential election.

Whoopi Goldberg said:

“The people that still believe that he got, you know, gypped, somehow in the election will still believe that he cared enough about his wife to pay that money from his personal thing.”

She added:

“I just don’t understand. If that was the case then why all the subterfuge? Why is Michael Cohen paying for it?”

On Thursday (Mar. 15) the actress took to “The View’s” Twitter account to issue an apology for using the word. However, in her defense, the word is also a slang term meaning “to be robbed of.”

The 67-year-old said:

“You know, when you’re a certain age, you use words that you know from when you’re a kid or you remember saying, and that’s what I did today and I shouldn’t have.”

She explained:

“I should have thought about it a little longer before I said it, but I didn’t, and I should have said ‘cheated’ and I used another word. And I’m really, really sorry.”

This isn’t the first time Goldberg’s comments on “The View” has landed her in the hot seat.

Last year, Goldberg was under fire and reportedly ready to walk away from the talk show’s panel after the network suspended her without pay over her controversial Holocaust remarks. In Feb 2022 Goldberg said:

“Holocaust isn’t about race. It’s not about race…It’s about man’s inhumanity to man.”

As previously reported, the unpaid suspension caused the comedian a lot of stress in addition to a $192,000 financial loss.

The EGOT winner apologized for her comments and ultimately decided to stay on the show.
