Bad Bunny Sued For $40 Million By Ex-Girlfriend For Using Her Voice Memo In Songs
It looks like Bad Bunny is in a bit of legal trouble.
Bad Bunny (real name Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio) is being sued by his ex-girlfriend for $40 million over using her voice recording in two of his songs.
In the lawsuit filed this month in a Puerto Rico court, Carliz De La Cruz Hernández claims that her voice and the “Bad Bunny, baby” phrase she came up with are both being used without her permission.
The lawsuit notes that the phrase was used in the Grammy-winner’s “Pa Ti” song as well as his “Dos Mil 16” track. Both records have millions of views on Youtube.
According to reports, the recording has also been put to use in
“promotions, worldwide concerts, television, radio and social and musical platforms.”

The lawsuit states,
“Since then, thousands of people have commented directly on Carliz’s social media networks, as well as every time she goes to a public place, about the ‘Bad Bunny, baby.’ This has caused, and currently causes, that De La Cruz feels worried, anguished, intimidated, overwhelmed and anxious.”
Carliz and Bad Bunny reportedly first began dating in 2011. A year later, they began studying at the University of Puerto Rico. The lawsuit states that during that time, the rapper
“was constantly creating songs and rhythms and would seek opinions from De La Cruz, who also was in charge of scheduling his parties and handling invoices and contracts.”
The filing explains that Carliz recorded the phrase in a friend’s bathroom at Bunny’s request in 2015. The pair ultimately called it quits in 2017.
Carliz claims that a rep for the superstar contacted her in May 2022 offering $2,000 to buy the recording of her voice. She declined the offer then,
“spoke with someone at Rimas Entertainment who also offered to buy it, saying the recording would be used in the upcoming album, Un Verano Sin Ti.”
According to the lawsuit, a deal was never reached, however, the audio went on to be published without De La Cruz’s consent.
In addition to the legal drama with his ex, Bad Bunny has also been making headlines recently due to his rumored relationship with Kendall Jenner.

Just days after their end-of-Sushi-date images went viral online, Kendall Jenner and Latin artist Bad Bunny were spotted together once again on Mar. 12 exiting an after-party for the 95th Academy Awards.
Earlier this month, the pair seemingly shared a passionate smooch while leaving a group-dinner outing at an L.A. Sushi spot. Although paparazzi didn’t catch the pair’s (literal) lip exchange, photos of the intimate interaction definitely alluded to one.

Rumors that Jenner and Bunny are dating started early last month when they were allegedly seen “making out” during a night out at the club.
