R. Kelly Moved From Chicago To North Carolina Prison For Undisclosed Reason
New details have surfaced surrounding R. Kelly’s prison sentence.
According to reports, last week authorities transferred R. Kelly – born Robert Sylvester Kelly – from a Chicago correctional facility to a North Carolina medium-security prison. On Apr. 19, he was moved from Chicago’s Metropolitan Correctional Center to Butner, North Carolina’s federal correctional institution. Reportedly, due to safety and security concerns, the reason for the famed inmate’s transfer has not been made public.

As previously reported, a Chicago courtroom sentenced the three-time Grammy-Award winner to 20 years behind bars in February on charges of child pornography and enticement of a minor. The 2-decade sentencing came after he was previously given a 30-year prison sentence for his 2021 conviction on racketeering and sex trafficking charges in a New York federal court.

However, U.S. District Judge Harry D. Leinenweber ruled that 19 years of the 20-year prison sentence will be served concurrently – at the same time – as his other sentence. One year will be served consecutively, according to reports. This means that R. Kelly, 56, will be spending a total of 31 years in federal prison.
Kelly’s legal team recently filed an appeal for his New York case.
