Jay-Z — NYPD Officers Charged w/ Stealing Nearly $3K Worth of Rapper’s Ace Of Spades Champagne From VIP Section At Music Festival

Three New York City Police Department officers have found themselves on the wrong side of the law after allegedly stealing nearly $3,000 worth of Jay-Z‘s Ace of Spades champagne.

The incident occurred on September 3, 2022, at the Electric Zoo Festival on Randall’s Island in New York City where the indicted officers — Jonathan Gonzalez, 33, Wojciech Czech, 44, and Warren Golden, 31 — were performing drug enforcement duties. Prosecutors said the alcohol was stolen from a VIP section.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said,

“Public confidence in the criminal justice system depends on members of law enforcement acting with the utmost integrity while on duty and following the same rules that apply to everyone else.”

Golden was charged with official misconduct, a misdemeanor, while Czech faces fourth-degree grand larceny and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen items, both felonies.

According to the NYPD, they were both detained on Monday (May 15) and suspended from their positions. They entered not-guilty pleas at their arraignments.

Asserting that his client, Czech, is “shocked and saddened by these allegations,” attorney Oliver Storch pleaded with the public to reserve judgment until these claims can be adequately addressed in the proper setting.

Gonzalez is accused of grand theft, illegal possession of stolen property, and official misconduct. According to prosecutors, he placed the $2,900 worth of champagne bottles in his backpack. He is expected to be arraigned later this week.

Jacob Weinstein, Golden‘s attorney, said he believes his client “will be totally vindicated in this matter.” He added,

“The charge is simply not supported by the facts and the DA’s office should never have brought this allegation against Officer Golden.”

Together with LVMH, Jay-Z (real name Sean Carter) first acquired the French champagne brand Ace of Spades — also known as Armand de Brignac — in 2014.
