Timbaland Sued By Producer For Allegedly Failing To Make Royalty Payments For Years
Record producer Timbaland might’ve found himself in a bit of legal trouble.
According to RadarOnline, J-Roc, Timbaland’s longtime producing collaborator, is suing the legendary producer for allegedly failing to compensate him over the years for royalties. J-Roc, real name Leslie Harmon, filed a federal lawsuit against Timbaland, 51, and several of his music companies.
Timbaland, born Timothy Mosley, is reportedly accused of failing to “transparently account and then pay” out royalties to J-Roc. According to the suit, J-Roc claims to be,
“directly and instrumentally responsible for much of the defendant’s success.”
In addition, J-Roc alleges that Timbaland’s failure to provide him with royalties owed to him has caused him significant financial damages.
In 2020, the musical pair allegedly settled on a deal in which Timbaland agreed to pay out royalties owed to J-Roc, specifically from Justin Timberlake’s “The 20/20 Experience” and Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines.” However, according to J-Roc, Timbaland hasn’t held up his end of the deal and has failed to make the required payments.
The suit also addresses J-Roc’s issue with Timbaland’s recent sale of his music catalog to a company named Hipgnosis. J-Roc is reportedly seeking an accounting of his royalties, the money owed on the settlement agreement, and an order directing that all future payments be made.
