Former ‘Glee’ Star Amber Riley Says ‘I Had To Get The F*ck Up Out Of There’ As She Addresses Why She Ended Her Engagement

Amber Riley is getting candid about her love life.

During a recent interview with XoNecole, singer/actress Amber Riley opened up about her relationship status, and how she was open to finding love again after ending her previous engagement.

As previously reported, in 2022,  Amber Riley called off her engagement with ex-fiancé Desean Black. A representative for Amber Riley confirmed the news at the time, noting,

“They ask for privacy during this time.”

When Amber Riley was on a press tour for her Lifetime Original Movie “Single Black Female,” she sat down with the Nice & Neat podcast in March 2022 and said she was “single,” all while not wearing her engagement ring. Riley explained that she and Desean Black were no longer together. She said,

“I am a single Black female. I am, I’m a single Black female but I’m not a crazy one like in the movie.”

Riley added that the break up was “amicable” between the pair. She continued,

“I wish him the best. I don’t have anything horrible or bad to say.” 

While Riley initially remained quiet on the matter, she is now opening up and revealing what led to the breakup.

She shared,

“When it was good, it was good. When it was bad, it was terrible, hunny. I had to get the f*ck up out of there.” 

She continued,

“I don’t owe anybody a happily ever after. You find happiness and enjoy it and work through it.”

Now, the former “Glee” star has seemingly found love again. Amber Riley is currently in a happy relationship with her new man. She first revealed her new relationship on Valentine’s Day 2023 when she made a heartfelt post dedicated to her boo. She wrote,

 “I am becoming better, so I can love you the way you love me. You’re the best person I know. Happy Love Day my VALENTINE. (Omg this is so mushy and gross but I love it)”

Riley also explained to XoNecole why she chose to go public with her new relationship.

“I decided to post him on Valentine’s Day, partially because I was in the dog house. I got in trouble with him. The breakup was never going to stop me from finding love. Or at least trying.”

According to Riley, this time around is going to look a little different and she intends on keeping this relationship more private than her previous one. Reportedly, her new boyfriend is a father and has no interest in being in the public eye.

During her interview, Amber Riley also talked about her path to healing and being strong through it all.

She said,

“I think one of my superpowers is resilience because, at the end of the day, I’m going to kick, scream, cry, cuss, be mad and disappointed, but I’m going to get up and risk having to deal with it all again. It’s worth it for the happy moments.”
