Tupac Shakur To Receive Posthumous Star On Hollywood Walk of Fame, 26 Years After His Murder

According to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, this month, the late Tupac Shakur will be honored with a posthumous star on the illustrious Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The forthcoming ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, June 7, and radio giant Big Boy will host the historic event. Tupac Shakur’s sister, Sekyiwa (also known as Set), will accept the monumental award on her brother’s behalf.
When speaking of the “All Eyez on Me” rhymer’s achievement, Hollywood Walk of Fame producer Ana Martinez said in a statement,
“Tupac Shakur was a rapper, actor, activist, poet, and revolutionary. This iconic artist has continued to be a part of the zeitgeist for decades after his passing and will continue to be an important cultural figure for many years to come. Surely, as one of L.A.’s own, Tupac’s star will be added to the list of most visited stars [on the Walk of Fame].”
Allen Hughes and Jamal Joseph — who directed and executive produced Shakur’s ‘Dear Mama’ series on FX — have been selected as guest speakers at the celebratory occasion. The hip-hop great’s star will reportedly be the 2,758th placement on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Shakur’s newest after-death accomplishment follows the recent announcement of a new street being named after him near his former residence in Oakland, California.
Born on June 16, 1971, the Harlem native is considered one of the most unapologetic, influential artists of all time. With a number of chart-topping songs and trend-setting contributions, Shakur’s politically incorrect and socially defiant approach to the industry catapulted his career while significantly changing the face of music for generations to come.
Unfortunately, in 1996, Shakur died after being struck four times during a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was 25.
