Update #2: (Jun. 15, 2023): The cause of death for former Three 6 Mafia rapper Gangsta Boo has been revealed.

According to reports, An autopsy report states she passed away from an accidental overdose. Fentanyl, cocaine, and ethanol (alcohol) were reportedly found in the rapper’s system. As previously reported, Gangsta Boo died at the age of 43 on New Year’s Day. Her loved ones held her funeral service on Jan. 14. Famed producer Drumma Boy shared details of the service online and said,

“Been a rough 2023 so far but I know you are finally at peace…Let us come together as we celebrate our legendary queen, sister, & friend! Thank you [Gangsta Boo] for blessing us with your presence!”

Update #1: (Jan. 10, 2023):  Details surrounding Gangsta Boo’s funeral and memorial service have been revealed. Famed producer Drumma Boy, born Christopher Gholson, took to his IG on Jan. 9 and uploaded an image informing Gangsta Boo’s fans of how they can pay their final respects.

According to the post, a celebration of life is scheduled for Gangsta Boo on January 13th in the Memphis, Tennessee area. The following morning, funeral services will be held at Brown Baptist Church. Drumma Boy captioned his post,

“Been a rough 2023 so far but I know you are finally at peace…Let us come together as we celebrate our legendary queen, sister, & friend! Thank you [Gangsta Boo] for blessing us with your presence!”

Sad news!

According to recent reports, on Sunday (Jan.1) rapper and former member of rap group Three 6 Mafia, Gangsta Boo, passed away at the age of 43. DJ Paul, the hip hop star’s former labelmate, confirmed her passing by posting a photo to Instagram in her memory. DJ Paul’s caption states:

“MAN WE WAS JUS TOGETHER 3 WEEKS AGO, REST WELL QUENN.”

Gangsta Boo, birth name Lola Mitchell, was reportedly found dead around 4 p.m. (ET) and sources say the rapper’s death appears to be drug-related. According to reports, before her death, Gangsta Boo was with her brother at a concert in Memphis. He reportedly overdosed later that night and was hospitalized. Thankfully, her brother recovered but sources at the death scene claim a fentanyl-laced substance was on Boo’s person.

Boo is remembered for being a product of the 1990s Dirty South school of hip-hop. The Memphis native’s edgy rhymes and blunt sexuality marked her as a counterpart in her hometown to female rappers such as Eve, Lil Kim & Trina. She recorded many studio albums with Three 6 Mafia — founded by DJ Paul, Juicy J, and Lord Infamous — until she left the group in 2002. In 2016, Boo spoke on her time with the famed hip-hop group and said, 

“Being in Three 6 Mafia did give me a lot of confidence. I started noticing that not only am I hot, but that I’m talented… But you’d be surprised at how many m*therfuck*rs don’t know that I was in Three 6 Mafia.”

Boo began her prominent solo career in the early 2000s with her debut album “Enquiring Minds” and its signature single, “Where Dem Dollas At.”

Artists such as Eminem, Gucci Mane, Run the Jewels, OutKast, Lil Wayne, Blood Orange, and Latto featured the rapper on their projects. Yesterday (Jan. 1) Latto seemingly mourned Boo on Twitter as she wrote:

“Nah this not true man.”

Latto then followed up with another tweet with broken heart emojis and wrote:

“NOOOOO.”

Boo was known to be a staple in the Memphis community and music scene and she will be missed by the industry and her loved ones.
