Kanye West’s Lawyer Denies Negative Claims About Donda Academy, Wants Judge To Dismiss Lawsuit

It looks like Kanye West is trying to get one of his many lawsuits thrown out.

According to reports, Kanye West’s lawyer has asked a judge to dismiss a lawsuit from two former teachers at his private Christian school.

Attorney Gregory Suhr said that depictions of Donda Academy as a “dystopian institution designed to satisfy Ye’s idiosyncrasies” were false. In court documents filed last week, Suhr said,

“None of it is true and the allegations do a disservice to the Donda Academy’s current staff and students and their parents who will attest to their positive experience.”

As previously reported, two former Donda Academy teachers are suing Kanye West, his school and its directors for racial discrimination and wrongful termination. Cecilia Hailey and Chekarey Byers claim in legal documents that they were discriminated against based on their race, had wages illegally held and were terminated in March 2023 in retaliation for reporting code violations.

Hailey, who has over twenty-five years of experience in the educational field claims that she discovered multiple health and safety violations at Donda Academy. Hailey also stated that there were several “unlawful educational practices” taking place at the school.

The two teachers also felt that Donda Academy lacked the necessary requirements to operate as a “proper school.” For example, they claim that the school lacks janitorial services, nursing staff, or staff trained to provide proper medical care if needed.

They also claim that Kanye West did not believe in having a cleaning staff for the school because he did not want to use cleaning products that contain chemicals. Instead, both teachers claim in the lawsuit that they were only allowed to clean with acid water and microfiber cloths.

Making matters worse, the two teachers claim that students were not allowed to bring outside food or water onto the school grounds. In fact, the two teachers claim that the only lunch available for students to eat was sushi every single day of the week.

A third former teacher, Timanii Meeks, was added to the lawsuit this month. She alleges that the building was unsafe and that she was dismissed after parents complained her classroom had no books.

Meeks, Hailey and Byers are represented by the same law firm and claim their termination was retaliation. Their attorney Ron Zambrano said in a statement:

“Clearly, Ye has a big problem on his hands with this school, and the addition of Ms. Meeks to the complaint only serves to reinforce the nightmarish conditions for staff and students at Donda Academy.”

In a court filing last month, lawyers for Donda Academy described the suit as “fatally uncertain, ambiguous, and unintelligible.”
