Zendaya’s Boyfriend Tom Holland Recalls Journey To Sobriety After Realizing He Was Battling Alcohol Addiction: ‘All I Could Think About Was Having A Drink’
Tom Holland has been living the sober life for over a year now, but it hasn’t been an easy journey.
During an appearance on the On Purpose With Jay Shetty podcast, the Spider-Man: No Way Home star said he became aware of the possibility he might be battling an alcohol addiction after having a “very, very boozy” Christmas, leading him to try dry January in 2022.
Tom Holland recalled,
“All I could think about was having a drink. It really scared me. I just was like, ‘Wow, maybe I have a little bit of an alcohol thing.’”

Tom Holland’s epiphany inspired him to attempt to continue his dry journey for another month. According to the 27-year-old, making it to the two-month mark would prove he didn’t have a drinking problem. However, this was challenging given England’s drinking culture.
He continued,
“I felt like I couldn’t be social. I felt like I couldn’t go to the pub and have a lime soda. I couldn’t go out for dinner. I was really, really struggling. I started to really worry that maybe I had an alcohol problem.”
The actor — who happens to be the boyfriend of Euphoria star Zendaya — made the choice to extend his no-drinking ban by another six months. Holland believed he had reached a turning point and was confident in his ability to maintain his sobriety by the time he was celebrating his birthday in June.
Now a year and a half sober, Holland said he’s the happiest he’s ever been in his life. He added,
“I’m happy to say it — I was definitely addicted to alcohol. I’m not shying away from that at all.”
