Zayn Malik Speaks On Reported Physical Altercation w/ Grandmother Of His Child, Yolanda Hadid, Says He Handled The Incident ‘In The Best Way’
Zayn Malik is finally ready to open up about the drama with his ex’s family.
The former One Direction band member started dating model Gigi Hadid in 2015 and the former love birds welcomed their daughter in September 2020. The pair reportedly had an on-again, off-again relationship during their time together, however, things took a turn for the worst and came to a final end in October 2021 when Gigi’s mother, Yolanda Hadid, claimed the “PILLOWTALK” artist “struck” her.
Zayn Malik denied her claims and ultimately entered a no-contest plea to four charges of harassment. He was ordered to complete 90 days of probation for each count and attend an anger management class and a domestic violence program. In addition, it was ruled that he has no contact with the “RHOBH” alum.
Zayn Malik recently sat for his first interview in 6 years and revealed why he didn’t say much about Yolanda’s allegations at the time. He shared,
“I don’t tend to get involved when people say things online, whether it’s got something to do with me or whether it doesn’t. Because for me, my most valuable thing that I have in life is time, and that takes so much time in a toxic environment to explain yourself to people and justify things.”
He continued,
“I knew what the situation was, I knew what happened and the people involved knew, too. And that’s all I really cared about.”
Zayn also expressed that his daughter is the main reason he didn’t do more to defend himself in the eyes of the public, noting that she’ll grow up and read about what happened.
He added,
“I believe that that was the best way, like an amicable, respectful way. And that’s all that needs to be said.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Zayn touched on his co-parenting relationship with Gigi and shared that things are “good.”
“We have a really good relationship for [our daughter]…so yeah, it’s going well.”
