Soulja Boy Says He Can’t Pay His Ex The $236k She’s Owed Due To His Million Dollar Tax Debt & Living Expenses
Rapper Soulja Boy is trying to get out of a debt he owes.
According to a report from Radar Online, the musician recently asked a court judge to reconsider a lawsuit, awarding his ex-girlfriend Kayla Myers more than $230,000 in damages, because he allegedly can’t afford to pay it.

In the request, Soulja Boy – real name DeAndre Cortez Way – reportedly said that his cost of living has been more than his earnings as of late, claiming his current financial situation was not accurately portrayed to the judge when the initial punitive damage award was given. Because of this, Soulja is reportedly seeking for the judge to overturn the ruling.
Reportedly, the financial statements showed that Soulja spends a lot more than he’s raking in, allegedly to maintain his lifestyle as an entertainer. Soulja reportedly admitted to making “millions” when he first launched his music career back in 2007. However, he said he now only makes money from shows, appearances, and affiliate marketing. His legal team reportedly wrote that he earns a living by,
“marketing some products, such as cologne and sneakers, but did not know what his earnings were from those sources.”

Additionally, the rapper reportedly claimed to make $10k – $50k per show, highlighting that from the earned amount he still has to pay his team, security, and transportation. In addition, his attorneys expressed to the judge that due to Covid 19, Soulja was unable to make his normal earnings from shows because many were canceled between 2022-2023.
The Chicago native then claimed that he has no properties nor any other assets to liquidate. He reportedly noted that he doesn’t even own the home he’s staying in, and instead pays $25k a month in rent.

His dispute added that he only owns three vehicles – worth $350,000 at the time of purchase – $18k in jewelry and $50k in stocks. If that’s not reason enough, the music artist reportedly owes the IRS $1 million in back taxes. Overall, Soulja Boy stated in the court docs that he simply doesn’t have it, and asked a judge to reconsider the award.

In case you’re unfamiliar, Kayla Myers sued Soulja for allegedly kidnapping and pistol-whipping her back in 2019 while the two were dating. The civil suit alleged the musician held the young woman against her will for several hours, ordering his assistant to tie her up with phone chords while he hit her. After the suit, Soulja was found liable for assault and was ordered to pay Myers $236k in damages. Additionally, the judge ruled the musician had to cough up another $236k in punitive damages, which is the amount he’s seeking to have overturned.
Reportedly, a judge has yet to rule on the matter.
